The reason Sailor Soldiers have coloured nails under their gloves is diplomatic.
There were certain political situations, especially during discussions with the Earth, where all Sailor Soldiers had to present themselves in their un-transformed, weaker states. However, if a Sailor Soldier were to transform and remove their uniform, there would be nothing to tell the two forms apart.
The coloured nails were, then, a permanent marking which could not be removed, proving when they were and were not transformed.

Gucci Lord Birdman: There’s gotta be more to being the Avatar than bending.

Like what did the first Avatars do? How did they learn bending? And how did the other people of the kingdom/nation/tribe/nomadic group learn their bending? How did their culture and shit become the way that it did? How did it go from Badgermoles/Koi fish/Dragons/Flying bisons being the original…

I personally believed it was a matter of evolution and means for survival for the humans. It just applied a spiritual (whatever that means in Avatar universe) approach. The thing is we know that bending was “taught” by the Original benders, but we don’t know who came first: The Avatar itself, or the human benders.

I think the original benders could bend due to survival and evolution (particularly the Flying Bison and Badgermoles). With humans I think it was a matter of learning to survive as well, except theirs took more of a mental and spiritual approach. I thinkthe humans did like all history suggest and sectioned off naturally settling in different parts of the land (later to become the tribes/nation/nomads/Kingdom). As a mean to live in their new environments they “picked up” They were traveling through a cave or something and witnessed Badgermoles moving rocks and making tunnels. It looked logical, especially with the rocky terrain, so they “learned” how to do it by watching badgermoles; this probably entailed picking up their movements and other actions. They had to become a badgermole in a sense and get that connection with the earth.

When it comes to the Avatar his or herself, I feel like that was a thing that came later on after human benders were in existence, and was taught spirit/energy bending, which is the way to represent the Avatar status. In that because the Avatar can take one’s bending away maybe that was the “key” so to speak as to how they are able to give it back, so who’s to say that they cannot have access to multiple bending styles via energy bending. I am assuming that energy bending is the only bending style that can not be taught in the way the other bending styles can, and is since a “forgotten” art. All Avatars can energy bend in that they can access their avatar abilities, and maybe the Avatar state is just energy bending at its most basic (or concentrated whichever you want to look at it) form.

just a thought

if aang had 3 kids

and bending can skip generations

why did Lin act like tenzin and his family could possible produce more Air benders if their bending got taken away

further more couldnt Kya and bumi also produce airbenders? i mean they carry the gene

Umm..because of reasons?

no but seriously that’s a good question. And another thing could children of the avatar have bending  that is not their original element? Like is it possible for them to have a child that’s an earthbender or something  even tho they’re not? That’s probably a stupid question tho. :\

So Aang and Katara gave birth to an airbender, a waterbender, and a nonbender. Are there recessive genes involved?

Although Aang was the avatar and had control of the four elements, he was born an airbender, so I don’t think the children of the avatar can give birth to other benders unless they mate with said benders of the opposite sex.

Shit I meant the avatar’s children, not their children’s children. Like since they can bend all four elements is it possible? But it’s prolly not. :\
