“I really feel like we need to STOP focusing on getting White folks to understand and just focus on getting other Black folks to understand and see their beauty & power. I’m not concerned with whether White folks “get me” or not. I’m concerned with whether my brotha’s and sista’s get THEMSELVES or not. Do they get their beauty? Power? Blood? History?I’m just to a point now where I feel like all this talking to White folks we do…all this trying to “get them to understand”, is another form of feeding into their privilege. Why should we waste/spend time trying to get them to understand!? If they wanna understand, they can seek out understanding on their own. Why are we working for them!? Fuck all that. "What we have here is a classic case of unchecked white Tom Foolery. Because whiteness is so prevalent they can’t see through the bullshit. All they see is: hey, there is a person of color, this makes everything alright even though we’ve erased all evidence of her blackness (Naya is an Afrolatina). Because all you need is one, and one POC/WOC makes everything alright. Umm… no. Sit your dumb white ass down now. And that goes for you too POC internalizing whiteness and honky dory with this bullshit. And those saying we make a big deal about everything … Yup. And we’re going to continue to do so. Because if you defend that Elle spread because you see one white washed Afrolatina while they eliminated Jenna and Amber - two other types of WOC then you need your whiteness checked regularly."

I want someone to look at how Santana and Mercedes, the most societally marginalized characters on the show, headed a sparkling shimmering production of “I Will Survive” and “Survivor”. I want someone to talk about how they decided to mash up Gloria Gaynor and Destiny’s Child. I want someone to look at how they chose to be powerful through singing iconic tracks of black women. I want someone to look at the rest of the Troubletones and see what that means. I want someone to talk about what it means for New Directions, starring a bunch of white men, to win by doing a Michael Jackson/Janet Jackson set list. I want someone to look at what that means for Santana and Mercedes. I want someone to look at those women’s faces when the lights go down and see what I’m seeing. I want someone to talk about what it means for both of them to go back to ND. What they’re swallowing by doing that. What performing really means to them. What love really means to them. I want this."

Well, today in Chicago, we experienced what TV weather people legitimately call “heart attack snow.” Because it’s so heavy, shoveling it may kill you.

I live in California too. I wish i lived where it snows. I hate the heat!
